This insignificant piece of so-called literature is the reason modern poetry is lacking in both talent and substance.

The unsettling theme of sexuality and lust apparent in several of your works cannot help but make me think as if I am reading the scrawled fantasies of a young, pubescent child. It's interesting, but it's so irrelevant in bringing down to earth the words I blend from the finest inspirations found running wild in the lawless state of the Imagine Nation.

When I read the comments of Anonymous, it reminds me of the contrived preciousness of academic circles and triangles, awfully erudite people bloated with literary knowledge and short-changed with literary talent. Such 3rd rate talents often find themselves in poetry workshops.

The Anonymous failed to put their finger on the pulse of the Poet and his Poetry; I prefer the comment below:

============================================
On March 17, 1969, Dr Alec Lucas, Head of the English Dep't of McGill University, wrote the following remarks in his Introduction to my first book of poetry, Walking On the Greenhouse Roof:

"He writes with gusto and sincerity. His poems are characterized by an intensity that may owe something to the neo-romanticism of the age, but that owe most, directly to Keeler's own experiences in life. Gusto and intensity do not of course make art, but when they are combined, as in his poetry, with an unusual gift for creating images the results are striking."

"Keeler could be called a love poet (although his work covers a wide range of topics), and an impassioned love poet. On the one hand, however, he manages to present love as a part of the ideal without making it namby-pamby or essentially abstract as something to be analyzed into motives and reactions. On the other hand, he succeeds in catching its sensuousness without indulging his poetry in the merely sensual. He sublimates his ardour without dissipating it in naturalistic or psychological detail or in the vague never-never land of romanticism. Neither pornographic nor precious, his poems present human desires as nonetheless divine for being human."

"... sometimes as high-spirited and bawdy-like humour unable to resist the. temptation to have fun at the expense of high seriousness..."

"His humour is neither flippant nor inconsequential. It is part of his whole attitude toward life. It is generally good-natured and lets us know that he recognizes himself for what he is-a young man alive to living, celebrating his experiences-and nothing more. He thus avoids the lugubrious and self-contemplatory that can become tiresome in lyric verse and concomitantly keeps his work free from pretentiousness and didacticism."

"... it is the poet's naivete that seems to give his work much of its distinction. I use the word in no pejorative sense, but simply to indicate one of the over-riding qualities of the verse. If Keeler writes of nature, he writes of it as it seems primarily to have come to him, and not as through the sieve of other nature poets. If he writes of love, lie writes of it as a lover and in terms of all its lights and weathers as he has experienced them and not as a case history of a stage in the process of maturing."

FINALLY

"There is nothing here of a fear of words and of unduly cautious polishing."Wally Keelerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02370532557074561490noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1942295101439929064.post-80418629243178890062010-07-10T13:26:04.915-04:002010-07-10T13:26:04.915-04:00There is a lack of useful comments on aesthetics t...There is a lack of useful comments on aesthetics to all the comments. On another blog, we used Wally's poems to discuss moral nihilism, also known as ethical nihilism, and the works of Richard Moll.
We were amused that low art is unknown.

To answer a question: Low culture (art), it is a derogatory term for some forms of popular culture. The term is often encountered in the nature of culture. Its opposite is high culture. It has been said by culture theorists that both high culture and low culture are subcultures.

Kitsch, slapstick, camp, toilet humor, yellow journalism, reality television, escapist fiction, popular music (especially its abbreviation pop) and exploitation films are often cited examples of low culture. It has often been stated that in postmodern times, the boundary between high culture and low culture has blurred. See the 1990s artwork of Jeff Koons for examples of appropriation of low art tropes. Rhys Chatham's musical piece Guitar Trio 1977 is also an example of incorporating (low culture) 'primitive' punk rock esthetics with (high art) contemporary classical music.

Romanticism was one of the first movements to reappraise "low culture", when previously maligned medieval romances started to influence literature.

It is claimed that in simple terms, low culture is another term for popular culture. This means everything in society that has mass appeal. In today's society, this would involve things like 'take-away' meals, gossip magazines, books that are current best sellers and sports such as football and basketball.

AS you know Lowbrow, or lowbrow art, describes an underground visual art movement that arose in the Los Angeles, California, area in the late 1970s. Lowbrow is a widespread populist art movement with origins in the underground comix world, punk music, hot-rod street culture, and other subcultures. It is also often known by the name pop surrealism. Lowbrow art often has a sense of humor - sometimes the humor is gleeful, sometimes impish, and sometimes it's a sarcastic comment.

We comment the aesthetics of Wally's poems between scholars. It is truly interesting. Aesthetics (also spelled æsthetics or esthetics) is a branch of philosophy dealing with the nature of beauty, art, and taste, and with the creation and appreciation of beauty. It defined as the study of sensory or sensori-emotional values, sometimes called judgments of sentiment and taste or "critical reflection on art, culture and nature.

Aesthetics is a subdiscipline of axiology, a branch of philosophy, and is closely associated with the philosophy of art. Aesthetics studies new ways of seeing and of perceiving the world, at our level is worth enjoying. Thank you Mr. Keeler for your poetry. It is fascinating. A thesis could be produced with the help of your work, and I hope to have given some light to some of you.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1942295101439929064.post-3119429873332542542010-07-10T12:03:22.207-04:002010-07-10T12:03:22.207-04:00I think poetry is free, free to like, free to disl...I think poetry is free, free to like, free to dislike. In this case Wally shocked, from readings all your comments. He is not the only one. Not everyone agrees with certain words. It depends on the way you were raised, educated, etc.. in other words it is complex. The most imaginative shocking words are in the War Museum in Ottawa. They preserved the thoughts written by soldiers written on uniforms, canvas, papers etc... it is very taking. In a context of war the word f.. became full of energy. I don't think this is all vindictive Wally. Hang in there. You provoked, now you can sit back and laugh! This is how I would take it.
I admire your work. Take it easy...
Perhaps surrounded in your "personal wars of life" your poem can take another meaning all together. He will be slow to see, slow to hear - slower still to feel."

["Dead Man's Mirror" by Agatha Christie in "Hercule Poirot - The Complete Short Stories", Great Britain, HarperCollins Publishers, 1999]

The irony is that narcissists, who consider themselves worldly, discerning, knowledgeable, shrewd, erudite, and astute - are actually more gullible than the average person. This is because they are fake. Their self is false, their life a confabulation, their reality test gone. They live in a fantasy land all their own in which they are the center of the universe, admired, feared, held in awe, and respected for their omnipotence and omniscience.

Narcissists are prone to magical thinking. They hold themselves immune to the consequences of their actions (or inaction) and, therefore, beyond punishment and the laws of Man. Narcissists are easily persuaded to assume unreasonable risks and expect miracles to happen !Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1942295101439929064.post-45390107570374556472010-07-05T16:19:22.692-04:002010-07-05T16:19:22.692-04:00I have posted Anonymous' stupid and ill-inform...I have posted Anonymous' stupid and ill-informed vinditive comments. Interestingly, the other responders in this comment section are all women, so let us understand that Anonymous does not in any way speak on behalf of women, even though Anonymous arrogantly asserts that they do.
