FOR ADOLESCENT GIRLS

And here you are
. . . . . . . . . . . . fallen
bum-first
into puberty
. . . . . . . . . acne
. . . . . .. . . . . . . . boys
adjusting your newly precious breasts
which neither bounce nor jiggle
when you frolic;
they fool no one.

But you are important;
your lover
may be anyone
and you must be prepared.

Do not mourn
your empty thighs
as though they were a casket for filling.
Your lover will arrive
decipher the ballet
movement of your eyes
and say,
. . . . . . Come with me.
. . . . . . We are alone.
. . . . . . Come with me
. . . . . . for we are alone
. . . . . . between the wide-apart stars
. . . . . . . . . . . . . of dawn

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .and dusk.
. . Come with me.
. . Let us marry the morning
. . . . . . . . . . .and evening.
. . Come with me
. . and miracles
. . shall be common
