REJECTED by Globe & Mail, Dec 14/07

For sixty years I have lived in the secular West where the luscious hair of women has been freely exposed. Unfettered from concealment by hijab, niqab or burqa, their hair has been liberated for the enjoyment of Allah to send tantalizing breezes to tousle and tease it, or to highlight it with splinters of sunlight, or to rinse it fresh with random showers, or freckle it with snowflakes.

The display of women’s hair in its myriad manifestations is a garden of gorgeousness that Allah provided for all of us to enjoy in our daily lives. How could men pervert Allah’s bounteous creation by covering so many flowers with the fabric of theological tyranny.

Women of the world unveil yourselves, let down your hair; you have nothing to lose but the chains of chattelism.
